TitleJohn Lloyd Papers
DescriptionField notes, photographs, maps, plans and illustrations pertaining to excavations directed by John Lloyd in the cemetery of Sidi Khrebish, Benghazi, at the site of the former city of Berenice.

In 1971 Sidi Khrebish, which covered one of the few remaining relatively undisturbed areas of Berenice, was threatened with development. To study the area before its destruction, the Department of Antiquities and the then Society for Libyan Studies undertook a joint programme of excavations from 1971 - 1975. The excavations resulted in a series of publications published by the Department of Antiquities, in which many of the maps and plans in the collection appeared.

John Lloyd (1948-1999) read English at the University of Manchester but later became involved in archaeological excavations. He lectured in Archaeology at the Universities of Sheffield and Oxford, and was a Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford.
