TitlePapers relating to Townsend's 6 articles for 'Airport' magazine, a pre-flight magazine for Heathrow and Gatwick.
DescriptionManuscripts, typescripts, published material and letters.

Written in the voice of Adrian Mole, the first three articles were originally commissioned in February 1985 and chart the events leading up to, and including, Mole's trip to Leningrad. The travel theme continued with the following 2 articles. However, the last article in the series entitled 'My Lifestyle' was originally written for radio and formed the second part of the series, 'Adrian Mole on Pirate Radio 4'. According to a letter from the magazine's deputy editor, Juliet Walker, this article may have been used to replace an article Sue Townsend was due to write on Mole in Paris, but was unable to complete owing to ill health. The articles entitled, 'Adrian Mole's Flying Diary' and 'Adrian Mole Crosses the Atlantic' were later reproduced in 'True Confessions of Adrian Albert Mole, Margaret Hilda Roberts and Susan Lillian Townsend' published in 1989.
