AdminHistoryThese papers were deposited by Prof. Ian Lauder, Dean of Medicine in May 2006 (Accession 006/003). They deal with the Foundation of the Joint Leicester/Warwick Medical School (LWMS) and range from 1997 to 2001. Papers also deal with the merging of the Faculty of Biological Sciences with the Medical School, which was taking place at the same time. The Joint Medical School was wound up in 2006 when Warwick became a medical school in its own right.
Prof. R. Burgess was Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Warwick University and was therefore involved in discussions from there at the beginning. Dr Ken Edwards was Vice-Chancellor at Leicester at that time. In 1999, Prof. Burgess was appointed as successor to Dr Edwards as Vice-Chancellor of University of Leicester.
Prof. Frank Harris was taken ill in September 1999 and was on sabbatical, due to retire in 2000. Prof Lauder was Acting Dean of Medicine and became Dean of Medicine in 2003.
