AdminHistoryNorman Scarfe (1923-2014) was Lecturer in History at the University College of Leicester and Leicester University 1949-63. During the war he was commissioned in the 76111 Highland Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, as part of the Normandy Assault Group from September 1943. He was in action in Normandy and in Germany (5 June 1944 to 5 May 1945), and later in Palestine. He remained on active service until 1946. He was posted to the war office to write the history of of the 3rd Division's campaign from the Normandy landings to the end of the German War. This history, Assault Division, was published in 1947. The papers in this collection were assembled in the course of his research for the book.
